Simon Minett – Managing Director (Founder)

Simon has more than 30 years experience in the energy sector. He started at ETSU, setting up their energy consulting business before relocating to Belgium to run the European CHP Association, COGEN Europe for 8.5 years as its Managing Director. In 2004, Simon founded Delta Energy and Environment with two colleagues, a business which has grown into a strong research and consulting practice in the UK. In 2009, having left Delta, Simon established Challoch Energy with the goal to be a centre of international expertise in clean energy policy, economics and deployment.

Simon is one of Europe’s foremost experts on Renewables, CHP and energy efficiency policy and deployment. He has a deep knowledge and consulting experience on assessing the economic and environmental performance of CHP and renewable energy plants of all scales, fuels and technologies against national methodologies.

Anna Limbrey – Director (Founder)

Anna is a co-founder of Challoch Energy. She holds a Masters degree (MSc) in Environmental Resources awarded by Salford University, UK. Following a career in sales and marketing in the UK, Anna relocated to Belgium where she worked as Marketing and Membership Manager for COGEN Europe for 8 years. From 2007, she then worked with ERTICO – ITS Europe as Partnership Development Manager until June 2018. She is now fully focusing her time on further developing Challoch Energy’s portfolio of activities.

Anna has an extensive experience of liaising with CEOs and board level executives, being able to liaise closely with clients to ensure needs are met on both sides. She also has a thorough understanding of sustainable transport issues relating to intelligent transport systems and services.

 

Mike Jenkins – Principal Consultant

Based in our Pencoed office in South Wales, Mike’s focus is on business development and day-to-day management of Challoch’s UK operation.

With a Doctorate and Masters in Environmental Management, Mike is a highly experienced and self-motivated professional with a strong track record in developing and implementing projects. Furthermore, Mike has in-depth knowledge and experience of working with public/private sectors, specifically with Bridgend County Borough Council leading its many decarbonisation and Smart Energy projects.

Charith Mendis – Electrical Engineering Consultant

Charith joined the team in Pencoed in March 2024. With a Master’s in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Swansea University, Charith brings additional technical expertise to Challoch.

Having successfully applied his knowledge to mechatronics design, project management and industrial plant engineering, Charith is keen to contribute to the development of clean, low-carbon energy solutions and shape the future of the energy landscape.

Tom Wantock – Community Energy Consultant

Tom has over a decade’s experience in physics, engineering and interdisciplinary innovation.

He studied an MSci in Physics, sponsored by BP, followed by a PhD in plasma (electrically-ionised gas) for space propulsion, sponsored by Airbus. He was then Research & Innovation Manager at a university spin-out, commercialising a patented gas generation technology (which he co-invented, based on non-thermal plasma) for use in biomedical research and surface disinfection. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, he has worked as a freelance innovation consultant and bid writer, primarily on Innovate UK grants. His clients have included start-ups in electric vehicles, carbon capture, medical devices / drugs, and software (AI, blockchain, RFID and digital twin technologies).

After researching sustainability challenges and potential solutions, and completing an IEMA Certificate, he has developed a strong interest in accelerating deployment of decentralised zero-carbon energy systems.

Elias Owen – Renewable Energy Consultant

Elias recently joined Challoch Energy as a Renewable Energy Consultant, bringing expertise in environmental science. climate resilience and geospatial analysis. With an MSc in Environmental Hazards and BSc in Physical Geography. He has completed academic projects focused on risk assessment, hydrological studies and advanced fieldwork in the Swiss Alps as well as a dissertation modelling potential vulnerability to coal tip collapses in the South Wales Valleys. His passion for renewable energy and sustainability drives his commitment to supporting Challoch’s mission of delivering innovative, low-carbon solutions for the future of energy.

Jessie Edwards – Project Assistant

Jessie recently joined the Pencoed office through Bridgend’s Quickstart Programme. A Welsh speaker, with experience of working in an Estate Agents, Jessie has an understanding of small business operations and has developed excellent communication skills as well as a client-based approach.

Jessie is excited to contribute to delivering decarbonisation solutions, specifically to small businesses in Bridgend.

Mike Parr – Associate

Mike has been collaborating with Challoch on various energy-related projects since 2013. He holds a degree in Power & Electrical engineering and an MBA. Trained by a UK DNO as an operations engineer, he also has experience in the area of energy saving, specifically in the industrial sector and including SCADA design.

Mike has taken part in various Horizon 2020 projects, including those covering battery storage. He has also been the lead in tendering for utility-scale storage projects as well as those covering stand-alone renewable projects on islands. A current focus of activity is the funding of the energy transition that Europe needs to undertake.

Alan Williams – Associate

Alan is working with Challoch on a number of its South Wales projects.

Alan has over 47 years working at senior management level in the UK energy industry developing commercial strategies for growth in energy, services and contracting. Practical and innovative approach to sales, marketing and managing key customer relationships.

Tilly & Meddi – The Office Pets

Tilly, the dog, and Meddi, the cat are the most important members of the team, providing a calming influence and inspiration when required.
