Working with a leading global chemical company

Challoch Energy has worked closely with Huntsman and now Venator since 2010 on numerous projects. Work has focused on energy projects on their larger sites from leading the procurement of new CHP and boiler systems, upgrading facilities and evaluating business improvement opportunities. Challoch has worked on prospects at Rotterdam, Huelva, Scarlino, Greatham, Llanelli and Calais for Huntsman.

Recycling, Renewable Energy and Waste Management

Viridor is a UK company focusing on recycling, renewable energy and waste management with over 320 sites across the UK.

Challoch Energy has a long track record of working with Viridor on a variety of different projects including the following:

Isles of Scilly

Smart Islands is a programme of interconnected projects aiming to support the community on the Isles of Scilly towards a low-carbon future through sustainable energy, water, sewage and waste management. The overall ambitions of Smart Islands include a 20% reduction in energy bills by 2020, new energy efficient homes and smart businesses; 40% renewable energy production by 2025; 40% of electric vehicles by 2025.

Sectoral Platform in Chemicals for Energy Efficiency Excellence – SPiCE3

For more than 10 years Challoch Energy has worked with Cefic on energy efficiency in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). This engagement started with the development of energy efficiency tools through a project called CARE+ in Italy, Bulgaria and Poland. This project was then rolled out to the UK, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany and Finland.

Manure Processor and Fertiliser Biochar

Working with the client, Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Challoch Energy investigated the problems associated with the disposal of pig manure and looked at the production of biochar from the pyrolysis process to provide an economic solution. The project developed a roadmap for a proof-of-concept project covering six areas:

Development of Organic Rankine Cycle Generation

Challoch Energy helped Biomass Partners (UK) Ltd with the development of a biomass CHP facility at the Rotherwas Industrial Estate. The work involved helping the funder, Abundance Investments with due diligence on the project. In addition, due to grid constraints, Challoch developed and implemented a SCADA system to control the generation of the biomass plant to enable WPD to permit connection of this power plant to the network with massive reinforcement costs.
